If your home theater system has a high definition television (HDTV) then you want to get the best digital pictures available. If you are watching DVDs then you want to get the latest generation DVDs – HD DVD or Blu Ray. If you are watching TV then you want satellite TV as this is the only source of HDTV broadcasting at the moment. This article will discuss the benefits of satellite TV to the home theater owner.

The two main providers of the digital satellite service (DSS) are DirecTV and DISH network. At this time these networks transmit their programs in digital but only a few channels have digital pictures. This is still better than the standard analog signal because the signal does not suffer from interference. Of course, to the watcher of TV the most important feature is to get digital pictures. I think this will change as more people get HDTVs and more program producers begin to produce high definition programs. At this stage, however if you want totally digital television, satellite services are the only way to go.

A DSS system is far easier to manage than a traditional video recorder or even a digital video recorder because it comes with a TV guide. The TV guide is synchronized with the programming so if the program starts late or is delayed the guide changes with it. So you will never miss your favorite program.

Along with the hundreds of channels you will also get many audio channels that feature mainstream radio stations and even obscure or ethnic language stations. You can play these audio channels through your home theater speakers to get the best sound quality.

The major drawback of satellite TV was that you had to install a sometimes unsightly looking dish on your home. This is not really the case now as the dish size in considerably smaller. The satellite companies make it as easy as possible to fit the dish or will fit it for you for free in some cases.

Satellite TV can bring true digital television to your home theater system. If you have purchased a HDTV then you want to be able to get digital quality pictures, for this a DSS is your best bet.
